Durham Region: Just As Nice For Half The Price

Durham Region

With the average price of a detached home in the Durham Region being less than half of what it costs in Toronto, more people are choosing to move east of the city.  According  to the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB), a detached home in the Durham Region on average will cost you $502,079 while in Toronto it is more than $1,150,000.  For some, the convenience and the allure of living in Toronto is worth paying more than double than in Durham, but for more and more homeowners, calling Durham home is the only way they can afford to get into the housing market.

Re-Max Home Buyers GuideIn the month of May, the average price for all homes combined climbed up more than 17% in Durham while in Toronto prices increased at a lower rate of 11%.

Durham Region is a lot closer to the city of Toronto than ever before.  With the 407 ETR planning on being finished all the way up to Harmony Rd in Oshawa by the end of 2015 and all the way to highway 35/115 by 2020, and add to that more express Go Train rides to Union Station and more lanes on the 401, Toronto is literally just minutes away for commuters.
